Education

Born (1944) into a family of musicians I started playing the violin, when very young. My first violin teacher, Joachim Röntgen, stimulated my ever lasting since interest in chamber music.
After my secondary education I got my M.A. in musicology at the University of Utrecht with Prof. Eduard Reeser and earned my Ph. D. with a research on the Harmoniemusik of Die Entführung aus dem Serail by W.A. Mozart.
I studied conducting with Louis Stotijn and viola with Jürgen Kussmaul at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. In various summer courses for conductors in the 1970s I was an active participant (Weimar and Salzburg among others). Also, I worked extensively with Arvid Yansons.
